I want to run and export a report of Opps with a certain Stage value (on which I have placed donor address fields) in order to mail merge using MS Word and send a paper mailing to those folks.

Then as part of the same business process, I want to update the Stage of all those Opps to reflect that I just sent the paper mailing (my "before" Stage is "Received Needs Info Packet" and my "after" Stage is "Received Info Packet Sent").

Currently for the second step, I use a list view on Opps which is filtered using the same criteria as the report, and the appexchange addin Mass Edit and Update, to change the Stage value.

I'd like to accomplish this process without having to carefully keep my report and list view filters "in synch" if I ever need to change their criteria or names, and without having to train staff on the two-step process of how to run the report, then click the Opps tab, choose the list view, then click the Mass Update button.

And all for free.

I know that DrawLoop can accomplish this for a low cost, but I am wondering if anyone has another trick up their sleeve that costs $0.

I have not yet experimented with flows - is that the right tool? Or the upcoming Lightning Process Builder?

@Judi Sohn, The missing part of my story is that, in this case, I am working with a small org whose staff is non-technical and needs to perform this operation on their own without my assistance. I am hesitant to teach them how to use Apsona (or any bulk data tool) at all, even for simple operations. Make sense? This org would fall into the category of "SF is better for them than spreadsheets, but only if it is simple for them to use". So I'm trying to keep their interactions with SF as simple as possible. It isn't technical issue, it is a human factors issue.
