Is there a way to pull all the permission details for each profile?

We have a large number of existing profiles in our instance, many of which are old and obsolete.  We are looking to clean these up and reduce the amount of profiles we have for easier maintenance.  We are trying to find best way to understand what each profile is there a way to export this information?

A couple of things that you can do is this -

[1] Using the Enhanced Profile List Views

If you have this enabled from the Setup | Customize | User Interface (Enable Enhanced Profile List Views) then you could see various attributes of the Profile such as Object level CRUD, System Permissions etc at a glance -

[2] Using External App - Perm Comparator

Essentially the App lets you to compare between Profiles but you could still re-purpose it to see how each Profile compares to one another and make key decisions.
