I've used the same validation rule with custom lookup fields without getting the error, so why do I get it for the standard lookup field Account?
"Error: Field Account does not exist. Check Spelling"
Also, when I change it from "Account" to "Account.Name", the error goes away.

Formulas use the API Field Name (not the Field Label) use the Insert Field and Insert Function buttons whenever you build a formula and you won't get bit.
