Best way to add an annual sales target using forecasts

Question

We want to bring our Sales team targets onto Salesforce so we can track the opportunities and pipeline against them. I want to use Forecasts, but I can't see the best way to set the sales quota. Each Sales person has an annual target but I can only see how to add monthly or quarterly quotas to Salesforce. Can I enter just one target per sales person that covers the whole year, or do I have to divide it by 12, enter a monthly figure then report on the year as a whole?

Any advice is appreciated.

I suggest that you enter Monthly Quotas for your team. You can always report on them by year, but if you've entered monthly, you can also report on monthly, quarterly, or partial year progress.
