Restrict a user from approving his own record

I have an approval process in which - In the approval step 1, I am sending the record for approval to a certain queue. This queue (say team 1) contains say 5 users. My question is how can i restrict a user from queue team 1 from approving the record if he himself is the owner or a related user in a record.

    I think, The only option is to write a trigger on The assignable work items object which holds assigned items for a user, and delete the record from there. This will remove the approval record from person's bucket list. Is there a better option?
