I am wondering if it is possible to assign different page layouts to different contact record types on related objects.
Here is the scenario:
We have 4 different record types for Contacts, depending on what program the client is in. Each has its own Contact page layout that it is assigned to.
The Contact page has many related objects that show up as related lists on the Contact page.
One of the related objects on the Contacts page is another object that has its own related objects.
For instance:
Contact
|
|
Education
| |
| |
GED College
Let's say that I want the GED Related List to show up for one contact record type, but I'd like for it to not be there for a different contact record type.
Is this possible? I tried making different page layouts for the different clients but then realized the only assignment I could do would be to the different types of users, not account record types.
Any help is appreciated!

That's the basic part. All of the contact record types have different page layouts that have different lists.
But common to all of them, let's say, is a related list called Education. This related list has its own related lists.
I can't find a way to customize for each contact record type what related lists on the first related lists show up.
So, the Education object is common across record types. But then the Education object has several related objects of its own. So, the education object is the detail of a master-detail relationship with Contact. But then the Education object is the master in a master-detail relationship with several other objects. Can I edit the related lists on the Education object according to Contact record type?
I know this is confusing, but I understand the preliminary page assignment for record types. It's when you get to objects that are not directly in a master detail relationship with Contact that I am unclear on.
