We need to put those that were moved to Contacts back to Leads. Is there a way to do that?

Is this because of a 'data mistake'? If there's any other reason, I urge you NOT to try to maintain a Leads database and an Accounts/Contacts database. It will result in duplicate data, inconsistent data, and will be confusing to your users, your reports, and any integrated system.
Instead, use Accounts/Contacts and set fields to indicate different categories of records.
