Mass updates & Field History Tracker,does it track the update if nothing changed

Question

I did a mass update back in June to every account in our salesforce system using data from a healthcare data company. The update included 10+ fields and I did the update again this month even though lots of the data had not changed.

If none of the data changed that is tracked by the "field history tracker" will it not document the most recent update?

ie. Update on June 2, 2012

Conducted another update on August 1, 2012 and Account A had no changes (but the data was still uploaded via the appex data uploader "update" option).

Will the field tracker only document the June 2nd date since nothing actually changed?

There were no errors in the uopdating process.

If there is no change in the fields data which are enabled for history tracking, it will not show any updates until changes are made to the field's value.   I would suggest, create a new date field and use this field for any mass update date to track any changes/activity made to the Account.
