Trying to create a formula field for picklist lookup

Question

So I have two related objects A & B. There is a field on A that I need to pull over to B for invoice merge. So I create a formula field, lookup that field to pull it over to that list of available fields for my meerge doc.

Problem is, this field is a picklist and it's giving me a syntax error...

Error: Field Name_c is a picklist field. Picklist fields are only supported in certain functions.

How do I get this to work?

Hi Stefanie,   Try TEXT(Field_Name__c)

Stefanie,    As others have said, you'll need to the TEXT() formula on your picklist field. The reason  why  this is the case because your formula field has "text" as its "return type" (I'm assuming) and Salesforce doesn't consider a picklist as text when you're dealing with a formula since there are different functions that only work on picklists vs text fields.   A lot of times when it's giving you an error and you're unsure of what it is, try and see if you can tell what the expected type is vs what is being given. Salesforce often can tell you what's it's expecting and recieved, but not always. Hope this helps in your future formulas!
