Can I increase the character limit for the URL field?

I'm trying to insert a link to a doc library in Sharepoint, but the Sharepoint URL exceeds the 255 character limit. Can I increase the limit?

It's an issue with Sharepoint. Here is an article that gives a workaround. (it's not Salesforce specific - it is an issue for other systems as well)
