Hi experts,

does "Salesforce Identity" work only with Salesforce Community?

My scenario is to integrate different external apps (such as the POS system or external Web site) with Salesforce Identity and then Salesforce Identity works as IdP and manages a "Unique Customer ID" between all the systems. Salesforce Identity is integrated with Salesforce Service Cloud. Please note: the Salesforce Community will be not enable or used in this scenario.

I briefly show two use cases:

1) customers should be able for self-registration or to login on their profile page (dynamic branded page) from the external Web site (in this case SF Identity create or update the "Person Account" in Salesforce).

2) sales persons, with POS system, can search for an existing customer (or create a new one), in order to retrieve (or create) the "unique customer ID" (returned by SF Identity) to insert it on sales transaction.

As indicated into the External Identity Impl. Guide, I've read that the main configurations are based on the SF Community. I've done also the trailhead ("Identity for Customers") based on SF Community.

It is possible to implement this scenario using the "Salesforce Identity" without the Salesforce Community?

Thank you.

    Thanks Jan,

I've enabled the community, as required.

I've done the configurations specified into the "Implementation guide" for customer's self registration, and also follow the same configuration of this video for "Person Account" self-registration:

    https://salesforce.vidyard.com/watch/_F5ZjfecPXZEyG_9vRodzA

But when I try a self registration, I've this error message: "Your request cannot be processed at this time. The site administrator has been alerted."

No email is received (I'm the site admin, the user email is correct and my org emai deliverability is set on "all email").

I think that the problem could be related to some required fields on my "Person Account object" that are not filled in the Self Registration form, so it fails...

My next step will be to customize the Apex controller (CommunitiesSelfRegController) in order to manage the required fields and I will check if it will works.

    Any suggestion on this issue?

    Thank you.

    Best Regards.
