On an NPSP org that I'm configuring, I can successfully switch between end-user email client and the Salesforce Email Composer. But when the latter option is selected, I would always get the "Using Salesforce email is more productive and the easiest way to get emails logged. If you want to switch to your email application, go to My Email Settings." message pop up on top of the screen whenever I click on an email address.

I have not yet seen any documentation about this behaviour so I'd appreciate if anybody could point me to one.
