"Sharing is inherited from parent to child" ... "Child record and parent record have independent sharing." Am I understanding correctly that the child inherits parent sharing but additional sharing can be granted independently?

I think I can piece that together. At face value the two statements seemed to conflict. Your clarification indicates I was grouping a couple things that were supposed to be separate. Thanks.
