the News tab under a person's Contact information in Lightning, is Twitter the only item that can be attached to it?

You can also customize the tab labels; you don't need to use the standard label names Salesforce provides. So, for example, you could create a custom label that says "News & Twitter" and includes the News and Twitter component.
