Enable Net Zero Cloud Data Pipelines, Features, and Automation

Enable Data Pipelines

Net Zero Cloud uses Salesforce Data Pipelines to clean, transform, and enrich your data. If this seems nebulous, think dashboards. Net Zero Cloud dashboards ingest the enhanced data to give you better insights at a glance.

To enable Data Pipelines, Safiya assigns the following permission sets to the users she created in the previous step.

User (Full Name)

Role

Required Permission Sets

Jane Admin

A system administrator who wants to…

  • Data Pipelines Base User
  • Use Data Processing Engine
  • Net Zero Cloud Admin

Joe Manager

A manager who’s responsible for…

  • Data Pipelines Base User
  • Use Data Processing Engine

Sam Auditor

An auditor tasked with…

  • Use Data Processing Engine

To assign the permission sets to the users:

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Users, and then select Users.
  2. To create, customize, run, and monitor the data processing engine definitions, select the Jane Admin user.
  3. In the Permission Set Assignments section, click Edit Assignments.
  4. Move these permission sets from the Available Permission Sets list to the Enabled Permission Sets list:
    • Data Pipelines Base User
    • Use Data Processing Engine
    • Net Zero Cloud Admin
  5. Save your changes.

Use the same procedure to enable the permission sets for Joe Manager and Sam Auditor.

Note

Remember not to assign the Data Pipeline Base User permission set to Sam Auditor. Only assign it to Jane Admin and Joe Manager. If you try to assign this permission set to Sam Auditor as well, you’ll get an error message.

Next, enable data pipelines.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Data Pipeline, and then select Getting Started.
  2. Ensure Data Pipeline is enabled.
  3. Refresh the page.

Turn On Net Zero Cloud Features

Net Zero Cloud is already switched on, so now you can turn on Manage Carbon Accounting and Net Zero Cloud features.

  • Manage Building Energy Intensity
  • Manage Data Gaps
  • Manage Scope 3 Procurement Hub
  • Manage Emissions Target
  • Manage Carbon Emissions Forecast
  • Manage Waste-Related Data
  • Manage Supplier Sustainability Data
  • Allocate Carbon Credits
  • Manage Water Accounting
  • Manage Carbon Accounting for Extended Organizational Boundaries

To turn on the features:

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Net Zero, and then select Net Zero Settings.
  2. Turn on Manage Carbon Accounting.
  3. Turn on the other features from the list above.
  4. Leave the remaining Manage Carbon Accounting settings off for now.
Note

In a real implementation, you turn on the Net Zero Cloud features required by your business. Refer to the short description under each setting or the link in Resources to learn more about the Net Zero Cloud features.

Enable Automation

Automation makes carbon footprints easier to work with by ensuring that energy use records are assigned correctly based on specific conditions. In Net Zero Cloud, you can automate several tasks. For this project, you enable a few, specific automation tasks.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Net Zero, and then select Net Zero Configurations.
  2. In General Configurations, for Default Reporting Year Type, choose Calendar Year.
  3. In Auto-Assign Carbon Footprints, ensure that Assign Carbon Footprint to Energy Use Records and Auto-Create Carbon Footprints are enabled.
  4. In BEI Setup, for Data Processing Engine Definition, ensure that Calculate BEI Record is selected.

Although Sam won’t immediately witness the benefit of automation while configuring NTO’s Net Zero Cloud, automation is put in play for the future. For example, once NTO’s corporate building is defined and energy consumption data added, the building’s carbon footprint will automatically be calculated. How cool is that?
