Upload Currency Rates

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Upload new currency rates in bulk using Salesforce Spiff.
  • Update existing currency rates in bulk.

In this unit, you explore how to manage currency rates in bulk by uploading and updating them in Salesforce Spiff. Bulk uploads save time and help ensure that all currency conversions are accurate and up-to-date. Whether you’re adding new rates or editing existing ones, following the correct format and procedures is crucial for a smooth process.

Add New Currency Rates

This section is applicable if you have previously uploaded currency rates via the manual importer. If you’re using this feature for the first time, contact your account manager to have it enabled.

Here’s how to add new currency rates.

  1. Navigate to Users under the Admin tab.
  2. Click Currency Rates in the left panel.
  3. Click the upload icon “ ” near the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Select Download the example file from the modal. The file contains six fields, five of which are required:
    • external_id (required): This must be unique and is required for updating existing records.
    • from_currency_code (required): The ISO 4217 currency code representing your corporate currency.
    • currency_code (required): The ISO 4217 currency code for the target currency.
    • effective_as_of (required): The date the conversion rate takes effect formatted in YYYY-MM-DD.
    • rate (required): The exchange rate (float data type).
    • rate_type: This is an optional field, currently not in use, and can be left blank.
  5. Fill in the required fields for each new quota and make sure to create a unique external ID for each entry. Be sure to delete any example records before uploading.
  6. Once your file is ready, click the upload icon, then either browse your computer for the file or drag and drop it.
  7. A notification confirms the upload is in progress.
  8. You can monitor the upload status on the File Import Status page, accessible via a link in the notification. This page provides important details, including any errors encountered. If the file contains any errors, only those specific records are rejected.

Update Existing Currency Rate Records

To update existing currency rates, you follow steps similar to uploading new records but with a few differences in preparation.

To update existing currency rate records:

  1. Navigate to Admin and select the Currency Rates.
  2. Click the download icon “ ” in the top right of the table to export a CSV file of all existing currency rate records.
  3. Make edits to the existing records.
  4. Prepare the file for import. To ensure successful imports, it’s best to keep the format as close as possible to the example file. Remove any extraneous columns that are not needed for the import. These columns should be removed:
    • Source
    • Updated Date
    • Created Date
  5. Rename the remaining column headers to match those in the example file. Alternatively, you can copy the records from the exported table and paste them into the example file.
  6. Once your file is ready, click the upload icon “ ” , then either browse your computer for the file or drag and drop it.
  7. A notification confirms the upload is in progress.
  8. You can monitor the upload status on the File Import Status page, accessible via a link in the notification. This page provides important details, including any errors encountered. If the file contains any errors, only those specific records are rejected.

Throughout these units, you have gained the knowledge needed to perform bulk uploads of critical data sets in Salesforce Spiff. You started with learning how to add and update users in bulk, followed by managing plans and team assignments efficiently. You then explored how to upload quotas to track performance goals.
