Get Started with Agentic Content Management

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe key features of Salesforce CMS.
  • Differentiate the AI tools that enable agentic content management.

Brush Up on Salesforce CMS

Salesforce CMS is a unified, shared content management system where you create content and extend it to any channel built on Salesforce. Before getting into the details of agentically managing CMS content, it’s important to remember these basics about how CMS works.

Note

All new CMS workspaces are enhanced by default, but depending on your business, your org might still use non-enhanced workspaces. For more information, review CMS Workspaces in Salesforce Help.

When you use AI tools to manage CMS content, it’s best to work only with enhanced workspaces.

Access Salesforce CMS from the Digital Experiences app. From there, you work with:

  • CMS Workspaces—Containers that group related content and control who has access to the content and what their level of access is. Every piece of CMS content lives inside a workspace.
  • Folders—A way to organize content within a workspace, with their own sharing settings.
  • Channels—The delivery mechanism that exposes published content to a destination, such as a public site or a web app. CMS channels must be associated with a CMS workspace for content to be published and made available to customers.
  • Content types—A type of CMS content, such as image or news. Content types are schemas that define the shape of a piece of CMS content, such as its fields and properties. For example, the image content type has an alt text field, whereas the news content type has a content body field.
  • Content items and variants—A content item is a single piece of content (such as an article), and a variant is a specific language or localized version of that item. For example, an English content item can have French and German variants.
Note

If you’re a Marketing Cloud Next customer, you also have access to CMS via the Content tab in Marketing Cloud. The parts and pieces of CMS are generally the same, but as a marketer, you also have access to marketing workspaces and marketing-specific content types, such as emails, landing pages, and SMS messages.

To learn more about CMS content in Marketing Cloud Next, review Manage Content in Marketing Cloud Next in Salesforce Help.

Get Familiar with the AI Tools That Enable Access to CMS

AI tools today are available in abundance, and it’s difficult to keep track of which tool is best for which use case. To agentically manage CMS content, the tools you need are Agentforce Vibes, Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers, and AI skills.

Agentforce Vibes

Agentforce Vibes is Salesforce’s premier vibe-coding tool, which is accessible as a VS Code extension or an integrated development environment (IDE). In the tool’s chat window, you describe what you want in natural language, and Agentforce Vibes generates and modifies Salesforce metadata for you, including data models, business logic, UI components, and even entire Multi-Framework web apps. And in this case, Agentforce Vibes can access and generate CMS content.

Agentforce Vibes is free for Developer Edition orgs with a daily allocation of 50 requests per day or 1 million tokens per day. When you reach the daily limit, Agentforce Vibes lets you know, and usage resumes automatically when the allocation resets the following day. To continue without interruption, review Usage and Billing for Agentforce Vibes.

MCP Servers

Agentforce Vibes is powerful, but it can’t manage your org’s CMS content all on its own: It must be connected to a few MCP servers first. Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard for securely connecting AI apps to external systems. Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers in particular use this protocol to give AI agents a secure, governed way to interact with Salesforce data, content, assets, and logic.

To access Salesforce CMS content, you must connect Agentforce Vibes to two specific hosted MCP servers, Content Read-Only and Content Write. The Content Read-Only MCP server provides read-only access to Salesforce CMS so Agentforce Vibes can search for, access, and read enhanced CMS content, folders, workspaces, and channels. Agentforce Vibes can use this server to summarize content, find details about CMS workspaces in an org, and answer questions about where content is published.

The Content Write MCP server provides write access to Salesforce CMS so Agentforce Vibes can create, edit, and manage enhanced CMS content, folders, workspaces, and channels. Agentforce Vibes can use this server to draft an article from given source material, publish content, and even set up a new enhanced workspace and channel for a campaign.

For information about usage and billing, review Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers.

AI Skills

The last bunch of tools that enable access to CMS content are AI skills. Skills are modular, self-contained bundles of instructions that AI agents use to handle specific tasks depending on a user’s prompt. Salesforce owns and manages a robust collection of AI skills, which contain domain-specific knowledge, procedures, and guidance tailored for particular workflows. These skills make sure that AI agents follow Salesforce best-practices as they complete tasks and find information.

AI skills are automatically enabled in Agentforce Vibes, so they’re ready-to-use right away. Salesforce’s AI skills are also compatible with other AI tools such as OpenCode, Claude Code, and Cursor, but this badge focuses on skills in the context of Agentforce Vibes.

Put It All Together

Agentforce Vibes, MCP servers, and AI skills work together to help you agentically manage CMS content. After everything’s set up, you can give Agentforce Vibes a prompt, such as, “Tell me if I have content about the newly available rental unit in my Rentals CMS workspace. If there isn’t any content in that workspace, create something for me.”

In the next unit, you review how Agentforce Vibes uses a mix of AI skills and calls to the Content Read-Only and Content Write MCP servers to address these types of prompts.
