What Is Salesforce Spiff Designer?
Salesforce Spiff Designer is where you create, manage, and automate your commission plans, payout rules, and calculations. It allows administrators to design detailed incentive structures, set specific payout conditions, and manage complex commission workflows with ease. In Salesforce Spiff Designer, also referred to as Designer, you can configure and customize every aspect of your compensation plans, ensuring accurate and automated commission calculations.
Navigate Designer
This guide provides an overview of navigating Salesforce Spiff Designer’s features and functionality. We review details about each component in order for you to fully understand how to use Spiff Designer effectively and optimize its capabilities.
Access Designer from the core platform (app.spiff.com) by clicking Designer in the top-right corner.
Plans
When you first enter Designer, you’ll land on the Plans tab, which displays a list of plans and any related folders. Each plan is represented by an icon, and by selecting a plan, you can view its payout rules, subfolders, and any related plans.
Hidden Plans Toggle: The hidden plans toggle allows you to view or hide inactive or archived plans, making it easier to focus on active ones.
Delete: You can delete plans when necessary, but be cautious, once a plan is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Deleting a plan will remove all associated data, including payout rules and rep assignments.
Data
The Data tab has two main options: Fields and Filters.
Fields: This shows available objects, which can be expanded to reveal connector fields and calculated fields. At the bottom, the Manage Objects & Fields section allows you to sync objects and fields from your data source, while Data Relationships helps you build and manage relationships between objects.
Filters: This displays the same objects as the Fields tab, but expanding each object reveals the filters built using that data.
Global Search
The Global Search bar at the top of the screen allows you to search across all plans, fields, calculations, sheets, and filters by name, without being restricted to your current context.
Context Selector
The context selector enables you to adjust the data displayed by selecting a specific rep and period, helping you refine the focus of your view in Designer.
Calculation
The Calculate button allows you to re-calculate unfrozen statements directly within Designer. You can choose specific periods, plans, and reps to recalculate as needed.
Adding New Payout Rules
The New Payout Rule button lets you add new rules to the plan you’re currently viewing, allowing for further customization of commission structures.
Plan Assignments
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find the Plan Assignments section , which shows assigned reps and their plan assignment effective dates. This section also allows you to easily add or remove reps.
Additional Operations
Accounting Reports: Next to the Global Search bar is the Accounting Reports icon , which takes you to the Accounting Reports page.
Clicking the More button reveals additional actions you can perform in Designer. Some key options include:
Plan Assignment: Set effective dates and rollups for plans and other plan-level assignments.
Statement Period: View details about the current period, including its name, start date, and end date.
Plan: Assign specific reps to a plan.
Rep: View information about a rep, such as their ID, name, email, role, and preferred currency.
Exit Designer
To leave Designer and return to the Salesforce Spiff Core Platform, click the Exit Designer button .
