Ever since I started using Tableau 10.5 Desktop, I've noticed the column width of my Measure/Filters/Marks cards aren't "sticking."

I recently opened a workbook to see a disorienting CHASM: roughly half of the screen was taken up by the Measure/Filters/Marks. Yikes.

Several points that concern me:

  • I had previously adjusted and saved my view with the columns aesthetically sized.
  • Tableau resized the columns, opting to "smoosh" my graph so it could display wider Marks cards. What's with that?
  • With multi-workbook vizzes, each workbook might display a different Filter/Marks column width-- there's no "default size."
  • My view was set to Standard--- not Fit Width.

Column Width Problem in 10.5

Has anyone else experienced this bug in 10.5?

Do you have recommendations for how to correct it?

Thanks!

Tableau Support got back to me and said they are working on a fix for this; they'll try to release it in the next update (provided they get it corrected).

In the mean time, as a very temporary fix you can use the Reset Cards option under

Worksheet --> Showcards. This will return your card widths to normal, however after a save, they may still be askew. (I never knew about this feature)

Updates: I thought the new release 10.5.2 did not have this bug-- I spoke too soon; it's still there
