I have three problems all relating to using the Tableau API and Tableau Cloud and with regards to datasources.

1. Firstly, when I list all the Data Sources in our Tableau Cloud using the API endpoint /sites/[site]/datasources/, I note that some are missing if I compare them to the Cloud and I cannot for the life of me work out why.

2. I created a brand new data source using the Desktop Client and published this to the Cloud. I can see the Data Source in the Cloud when I login to Tableau, but frustratingly, its missing when I list all the datasources using the API endpoint above- What on earth am I missing?

3. Can someone tell me why when you login to Tableau cloud, the ids used for the datasources use numeric e.g. 3456789. However, when I list the data sources in the API, it uses different ids such as xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx?

Why is it this complicated and non obvious?

Any help much appreciated, I have hunted through the the forums, API documentation and endless hours looking online while logged into Tableau to try and work this out, but yet to no avail :-(

Many thanks

    @Richard Browne

    Hi, probably you have more than 100 datasources. So when you call the endpoint /sites/[site]/datasources/ you are only getting 100.

    You may use:

    GET /api/api-version/sites/site-id/datasources?pageSize=page-size&pageNumber=page-number

    page-size could be up to 1000. If you have more than 1000 then you can use also the pageNumber option.

    You can take a look of:

    https://help.tableau.com/current/api/rest_api/en-us/REST/rest_api_ref_data_sources.htm#query_data_sources

    If this post resolves the question, would you be so kind to "Select as Best"?. This will help other users find the same answer/resolution and help community keep track of answered questions. Thank you.
