What I am trying to accomplish is to show a bar chart that allows managers to see how much money they are putting into a fund each month. 24 months is a lot to look at in one view so I am trying to give them ability to limit the dates if they want so they can customize the view for their analysis.
In my attached workbook, View 1 - shows the date range for each fund without any filters just so you can see the breadth of the data.
Background: A new fund is created each year and each fund has 24 months except for this year's fund (2019 Fund) because the dates started in Oct 2018 and run to this month Aug 2019.
In other words:
- 2017 Fund - Start is Oct 2016 and End is Sep 2018 (24 months)
- 2018 Fund - Start is Oct 2017 and End is Sep 2019 (24 months)
- 2019 Fund - Start is Oct 2018 and runs through current month and year (Aug 2019)
In View 2:
I have build a parameter to limit my view to a particular fund. Where I am stumbling is to get the parameter controls for the Start Date and End Date of the fund to show the "relevant values." I built the parameters in the view according to this You Tube Video: How To Create a Filter for Start and End Dates Using Parameters in Tableau - YouTube but again this logic falls short of what my ultimate goal is.
Any ideas?

you are on 2018.1 - suggest you get your IT group to move up to the current version 2019.2
understand Parameters work from list and are not like filters - with filter relevant values and can be used to limit a selection list
the same is not true for parameters - but the latest version of Tableau include parameter actions which allow the user to change the parameter value visually from the canvas (no drop down needed) you may be able to use the feature to get the UI working in a way you want
