Hi all,
We recently started using the new Outlook Salesforce Add-In, but "Related to Salesforce" category tag is not tagging the email as expected.
Here’s what we’ve noticed:
- The add-in loads fine inside new Outlook.
- When click save button in Log Email, the "Related to Salesforce" category tag either doesn’t respond or fails to display related records.
- No obvious error messages appear, so it’s hard to troubleshoot.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
- Is there a specific configuration or permission needed for this feature to work?
- Are there known bugs or updates we should be aware of?
Any guidance or troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Yeah, that “Related to Salesforce” category in the new Outlook add-in can be a little flaky. Sometimes Outlook doesn’t auto-create the category, so you actually have to go into your Outlook settings, add a category called “Related to Salesforce,” give it a color, and then the add-in will start using it. Another thing to watch is permissions — the user needs to have “Log Emails on Send” and access to the objects in Salesforce, otherwise the add-in can’t really attach the email and the tag won’t show up. And honestly, part of it is just the new add-in itself — there are known bugs where the category doesn’t show up consistently in the new Outlook for Windows or Mac, and Microsoft/Salesforce have said it may only start appearing after a restart or after an update.
If it were me, I’d first just create that category manually in Outlook, then double-check I’m on the latest Outlook build since Microsoft has been patching this. After that, I’d make sure the integration user has the right permissions in Salesforce. If you do all that and it’s still not working, chances are it’s one of those product bugs in the new add-in, so it’s more about waiting for Salesforce to push a fix.
