I created the playground app to complete some trailheads but when I click to 'get your login credentials' or 'install a package' the screen is blank in firefox and I get an error in edge.

As far as I understand, this is a corporate computer with specially configured security policies that you cannot change. In this case, you will indeed need to contact your system administrator or whoever set up the security system.
A few months ago, I came across a similar issue here, and it turned out the problem was with the corporate firewall, which was blocking access to certain Salesforce features.
