    Hello @Baseem Bashir,

The highlights panel and the compact layout are two different ways to customize the display of key fields on a record page in Salesforce. They have different purposes, use cases, and limitations.

The highlights panel is a table of up to four columns that appears at the top of every primary tab in a console. It helps console users see important information at a glance, such as the record name, status, owner, and actions. The highlights panel is configured by editing the page layout of the object and selecting the fields to display in each column. The highlights panel is only available in Salesforce Classic and only for console apps.

The compact layout is a list of up to 10 fields that appears in the highlights panel at the top of a record page in Lightning Experience. It also appears in the expanded lookup card when hovering over a link in record details, and in the details section when expanding an activity in the activity timeline. The compact layout is configured by creating a custom compact layout for the object and selecting the fields to display. The compact layout is available in both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience, and it also controls how records display in the Salesforce mobile app.

Some of the use cases and limitations for each of them are:

    • Highlights panel:
      • Use case: You want to provide quick access to key information and actions for console users who work with multiple records at the same time.
      • Limitation: You can only display up to four fields per column and up to four columns per panel. You cannot display rich text area, custom long-text area, or transcript fields. You cannot use the highlights panel in Lightning Experience or the mobile app.
    • Compact layout:
      • Use case: You want to customize the record highlights for Lightning Experience and mobile users who need to see the most relevant information at a glance.
      • Limitation: You can only display up to 10 fields per layout and only one layout per object. You cannot display formula fields that reference other objects, geolocation fields, or encrypted fields.
