Summary:

When trying to create a Scratch Org using the Command Palette, I get the following error.

SFDX: Create a Default Scratch Org... failed to run

    Source: Salesforce CLI Integration (Extension)

Any suggestions appreciated.

Details:

  • I am a new salesforce developer.  I have created a new developer org and successfully used it for various administrative tasks.  I'm currently following the Pluralsight course "Salesforce Development: Getting Started" by Dan Appleman, and am trying to create my first scratch org.  My IDE is VSCode with the latest Salesforce Extension Pack (Expanded) installed.
  • I created a project using the CLI and I was successfully able to authenticate to my org (see OrgAuthentication.png).
  • As a note, I get the same results if I use an existing salesforce project (not one I created) downloaded from GIT.
  • When I use the command palette to create a new org, I get the error above after all parameters are entered.
    • You can see the Output Console and Project file in CreateOutputWindow.png
    • You can see the Developer Console output in CreateDeveloperConsole.png, which shows as if there was some syntax error in notificationsAlerts.ts.
  • I double checked that I do not have any existing scratch orgs created in the Active Scratch Orgs view. (see ActiveScratchOrgs.png)

Thank you!  I did that and it worked.

For anyone else having the same issue, installing the CLI gave me a path error as described here.  I deleted some path entries and the 2nd install went through without interruption.  After that, the scratch org creation went without incident.
