Hi everyone! It's been our third year in a row that we weren't able to fit Pardot into our budget, but we still have ambitious individual giving goals facing our organization.

Does anyone have tips for how to level-up our individual giving segmentation/campaigns/comms that don't involve Pardot? Would love to connect with folks separately to learn more.

Thanks!

Hi Enya! We are also on the Pardot-less train, and I was wondering the same thing a couple months ago. There doesn't seem to be a great way to do this dynamically in NPSP without Pardot (or I think Marketing Cloud is what it's called now), but we use the Mailchimp for Salesforce integration and that helps a bit in terms of knowing who is already receiving our regular electronic subscriptions to various things and who has opted out. Otherwise it's been pretty manual; exporting segments based on the associate managing the donor relationship and then sending individual blasts by logging in as the applicable user, creating reports for l/sybunts and tweaking our copy accordingly, and using a donor streaks customizable rollups to encourage people to continue/establish a history of consecutive giving.

I recently read this article from the Chronicle of Philanthropy which may speak to your desire to segment. I think you need to sign up for a free account to read if you aren't a subscriber, but the biggest takeaway I had was to hone in on sources of engagement outside of giving history. The big example here was email open rates; folks who are highly engaged with your publications may be an subset of people willing to support financially with the right ask.

Hopefully this is helpful in at least generating some ideas! We're still in the early stages of trying this stuff out, and it's both exciting and daunting.
