Formula field to mirror picklist value on same object

Question

I am trying to do a row-level formula in a report (report type is lead with converted lead information) and I keep getting the following error: "Field StageName is a picklist field. Picklist fields are only supported in certain functions." I thought an easy fix would be to have a field on the opportunity that just mirrors the current stage that the opportunity is in. What would the formula be for this mirror field?

Try wrapping the field inside a TEXT function like this =  TEXT( Field__c )
