How do you flag invalid email addresses in Salesforce?

We use Salesforce Sales Cloud and Salesforce Marketing Cloud. We are currently looking for how to flag invalid email addresses in our system. We are a University so there's a lot of overlapping data between departments (ex. A student starts out in recruitment, then goes to student affairs, career services, alumni, etc) We don't want to determine an email is invalid, delete the email, only to have the next department upload their list of contacts with the invalid email address in it. How are companies handling this? I'm aware if you send the email through Salesfore the Bounce Mail Management will flag the contact, but we use SFMC and list verification services, as well as bounce information from another system.
