Custom Report Type with or without Custom Object

I am trying to create a custom report type that has Opportunities with or without a custom object. I want to see which opportunities have a record in this related object. When I bring it a field from this custom object, it automatically limits it to only Opportunities with records in this custom object. HOw can I see which opportunities have related records? Help!

    What type of relationship do the Opportunity and the Custom Object have?  If it's a Master-Detail you could create a Roll-Up Summary field on the Opportunity that counts the number of Custom Object records and use that in your Report Filter or grouping.

    Can you post a screenshot of the Report (including the Report Type being used) and the Groupings, Filters, and Settings, etc. that you're currently using and create a mock-up of what you want your Report to look like?
