Hi!

I recently ran into an issue where I can no longer edit a Contact record if the Record Owner is inactive. I feel confident that I have always been able to edit a contact regardless of the owner but maybe this really is just the first time I have run into the problem in 4 years with many salesforce users coming and going!

The articles I find suggest you are only able to edit Accounts and Opportunities when the owner is inactive and I have found articles on how to set permissions, however those permissions are only allowed to be assigned to a system admin.

Can someone confirm that this limitation has always been there and if so how do I get around it so my standard users can edit Contacts if the owner is inactive?

Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a setting now in salesforce where you can edit records owned by inactive users.

If you go to Setup -> User Interface

Under the Setup section there is a checkbox for: Enable "Set Audit Fields upon Record Creation" and "Update Records with Inactive Owners" User Permissions.

NOTE:  Once you enable this preference, enable one or both of the user permissions in a permission set or profile.
