Yesterday I transferred a a few hundred contacts and accounts through the data loader and closed tasks and activities from the last ~18 months suddenly showed up on my report that were completed months ago, but now show last modified date as yesterday. It surely wasn't all activities associated with the contacts I transferred, and appears almost random.
What causes this behavior in Salesforce when transferring contacts? How can I avoid this in the future?

As part of activity report creation process, we can select the object for which the activity to be tracked and then we can create report. So you can select the Contact object for the Activity report.
