Create new button not auto relating to master detail parent

I have a custom object with a Master-Detail relation to the Account object. From Classic, when I choose create new from the account, it auto relates to the account. However, when I choose create new from the Lightning Related Lists components, it doesn't auto relate. Am I missing some sort of Lightnign configuration? It indicates that it runs from my classic page layouts.

    Ok after looking at this a little deeper, the create new button is not the out of the box new button. It is a custom button that bypasses the record type selection and automatically associates the new record with the parent. However, it does function properly in Classic, so there is something that Lightning does't appear to be compatible with.
