We had a situation this past Friday where close to 7500 custom records were created in a short amount of time in our instance by accident due to an issue with our software and the hamsters running in their little wheels not doing what they were supposed to.
I would like to create an email workflow alert that is triggered by "x number of records being created within y timeframe" to alert our team when things are going sideways (the processing of what those records flag costs us $ in terms of processing time).
I have to assume that I am not the first person to ask this question (admin wanting an alert if someone was bulk creating accounts, etc), but I was not able to find any insight searching around in "answers" and online.
Any ideas?
Thanks a ton!

Thanks Bill-
Yes we have a very customized integration (barely use any of the standard objects at all) and have developers very familiar with the REST API so I am sure banging out some Apex for alerting won't be tough... Thought I would ask if there was anything I could try with the off the shelf workflow rules, but figured since those all just seem to be driven off of field changes/calculations on a single record it wasn't going to pan out.
Appreciate the input.
