Lead Source elimination - what happens to the data?

Question

I have a long list of "Lead Sources" dated back to 2012 for various tradeshows.  If I delete these old Lead Sources, what happens to any Leads that are affiliated with that lead source?

Hi Dave,   You can look at 'inactivate' the value rather than delete.   It will very much depend on what do you want to do with those values, keep it as it is or replace   Hope this helps,   Ines

When you attempt to delete a Lead Source value, you will be prompted to replace it with an existing value. This means that the deleted value will be removed from those Leads but replaced by the value you select in its place.   https://success.salesforce.com/answers?id=90630000000gk5wAAA
