We have a seperate group that manages accounts vertically, i.e., all the say Coca Cola accounts are managed by this individual, even though the account owner are all differnt based on their geographic location. I need to be able to report based on the Account Manager. I need to report on all opportunities at all locations where this person is the Account Manager. I origianlly thought using the contact role and having the Account Manager be designated there, but am finding difficulty in reporting that way. Is it better to create an new Relationship field and specifiy the Account Manager that way?
And, is there a way to select all accounts where the Account Manager is only specified on the Parent , or do I need to specifoy him on every account, either on the relationship field or as a contact role?
There must be others who have a simialr organizational issue

Account Teams are probably the way to go here... Contact roles are more for contacts @ the company, wheras Account Teams would signify your employees, and the role they play on the accounts . i.e. Account Manager or Sales Ops.
Then, there is standard team reporting and filtering you can take advantage of.
