Rollup Total Opportunity Amount on Account but only for child accounts

Question

On a parent account, I would like to roll up the total amount of all Open opportunites but just for the children accounts of the parent.

I have been playing around with this one, but havent been able to design a solution, and would appreciate some help.

- I tried doing a rollup summary field on Account, but after selecting Opportunity as the summarized object, when building the field/operator/value Parent Account is not a selectable field. So I created a Parent Account formula field on Opportunity, but that doesnt seem to help...this new Parent Account opportunity formula field also doesnt show up in the list of selectable fields when building a rollup summary field on Account.

Any suggestions?

There is no  real "relation" between Accounts in the way you'd like.  An Account is marked as a "Parent' account, just by putting its  Account.Id  in the 'ParentAccount' field of another Account.   I don't know if the AppExchange app called "Roll up Helper" can do something for you or not (one of these days I should play with that app since it keeps coming up).

Roll Up Helper has just told me they do support rollups from Opportunity to Account to Parent Account.    I just didnt want to install an entire package to do this, with 6 more objects, 4 more tabs, 1 app (even though its a managed package so no big deal - we are Enterprise edition)   So I was hoping for a native solution - but cant think of any.
