End goal: to have Opportunity fields update based on a change to a field on a custom object.

Scenario:  I have created a custom object called Invoices.  On the Invoices custom object, there is a tickbox (True/False) called: PAID.

On the Opportunities screen, there is a Lookup to Invoices so I can associate an Opportunity (or more likely, a number of opportunities) with a single Invoice record.

What I would like to have happen is a rule that fires such that when the PAID tickbox is checked on the Invoice object, the related opportunities change their 'Stage' from Invoiced to 'Closed Won'

ATTEMPT #1

I tried to create a basic field update based on the Invoices object, but that didn't work as I couldn't seem to update any fields on the Opportunity object.

ATTEMPT #2

I created a tickbox formula field on the Opportunity object that  states: if( Related_Invoice__r.Paid__c = true, True, False).

This field works and when I tick the PAID box on the Invoices object, the field on the Opportunity object updates accordingly.

I also set up a Workflow with this rule:

How do I update opportunity fields based on an update to a custom object

Then I set up a Field Update as follows:

User-added image

I activated the rule, but unfortunately, it does not work and I can't figure out why.

The formula field on the Opportunity object shows the box ticked as true when the Invoice record is updated.  BUT the Stage does not change.

What am I missing or is there a better work around for this??

Thanks!

    Raj,

Thanks for the feedback.  I am not a developer so can't really do much w/Apex!  I am sure this is easy for someone....if anyone has any time or has something similar that I could use as a starting point, that would be great!
