I have 2 record types & 2 page layouts for a custom object. Page layout 2 mirrors page layout 1 even though I do not have any fields on pg layout 2. Some of the fields should be on both page layouts and some will only be on one page layout.
When I attempt to add fields contained on the 2nd page layout, the layout is still showing the fields in the same location as the first page layout. In addition, if I drag the field off of the 2nd page layout, they still appear on the page layout when my user attempts to complete the record.
Is there something I must do to insure they are different?

Have you checked the page layout assignments and ensured that the second page layout is assigned to certain record tyopes for certain profiles?
