looking for help with a formula on a visual force email template. I have two different fields. If the first field is populated, then display the value else display the value of the second field. I have the formula working but unfortunately, the text of the formula is also appearing in my email template. The two field names are QN_Customer_Complaint_lu__r.external_id__c (which is actually  a lookup to a field on the case object) and QN_Customer_Complaint__c.

Here is the text of the formula: !IF(NOT(ISBLANK(!relatedTo.QN_Customer_Complaint_lu__r.external_id__c)), {!relatedTo.QN_Customer_Complaint_lu__r.External_ID__c}, {!relatedTo.QN_Customer_Complaint__c})

How do I get the result of the formula to show up without the actual formula appearing?

    Try this =

    {!IF(NOT(ISBLANK(relatedTo.QN_Customer_Complaint_lu__r.external_id__c)), relatedTo.QN_Customer_Complaint_lu__r.External_ID__c,relatedTo.QN_Customer_Complaint__c)}
