We are attempting to write a report to summarize the amount of all opportunities with a custom field "quarter_commit" = Q2 (or Q3, Q4 etc.)  vs each salespersons "quota" for the corresponding quarter.  So the report should look like:

Sales_rep1:     FY2010/Q2

Sum of Opps:  100,000 ( sum of opportunity amount where custom fields on opps = Q2 )

Sum of Quota: 150,000

Sales_rep2:     FY2010/Q2

Sum of Opps:  100,000 ( sum of opportunity amount where custom fields on opps = Q2 )

Sum of Quota: 150,000

etc.

The closest report I could find in Salesforce was "Customizable Forecasting: Quota vs Actual – Compare my quota w/actual sales." but the not able to summary the Opportunity amount by our custom field.

Any suggestions, tips, pointers are appreciated!

I'm working on putting together some quota reports, as well.

What if you create a series of custom fields on the User record that stores their quotas, and use custom summary fields at the report level to get what you're looking for?

    Example:

custom field at User called "Q1 Quota"

Then, when you generate the report, you can create a custom summary field that takes the sum of closed Ops and divide it by Quota to get a percentage to Quota for that time period.

Its simple, and doesn't allow for very complex quota requirements (ie, all you get is 1 number per quarter, and 1 for the year), but it would get you what you need.
