Hi,

I'm trying to accomplish the following, grouped by Term Code:

  1. Calculate the rank percentile for a list of college courses based on enrollment. Goal is to keep the top 25%.
  2. From the group identified above, keep the Top N courses based on an aggregate calculation (DFW Rate = Sum(Outcomes Not Successful) / Sum(Outcomes Enrolled))

Tableau seems to be able to calculate the percentile rank just fine, but I'm struggling with the 2nd.

  • Rank seems to calculate before rank percentile, so I'm unable to get the correct Top N
  • Sets can use the aggregate calculation, but because of Tableau's order of operations, they're also calculated prior to the rank percentile.

Essentially: finding the intersect of high enrollment courses with those that also have a high DFW rate.

One note: we do have the option to pre-calculate the percentiles in a data integration tool before the records get to Tableau Desktop. If we do that, then this problem becomes trivial - just wondering if there was a way to solve it fully with Desktop.

Anyone have another approach here?

Thanks!

Andrew
