I have a background in rhetoric, communication, social science, and storytelling and have figured out the basics of making Tableau work, but I can't find anything online or in the software that would convert the visuals I've developed into the stunning Vizs I see in these communities. Moreover, from a presentational aid perspective, the presentation tools in Tableau fall far short of quality found in presentational software (PowerPoint or Keynote), but I can only export images - the quality of which are limited by my complete inability to control how they appear in Tableau.
I'm familiar with Python, HTML, R, and Adobe, but it feels like there's a piece that translates what I'm doing in Tableau to those other outlets and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is I need to learn to make them work.
What do I need to learn or do to convert the charts and graphs in Tableau into the stunning visuals experts are able to create?
Hi William,
All excellent responses. My two cents worth, and I'm not a very creative/artistic person...just not at all...so I'm always amazed when I see some of the visuals that are presented at Tableau Conference and on various websites.
If I want artistic inspiration, I'll go to Tableau Public Gallery for the Viz of the Day or search the Gallery for like-themed results: https://public.tableau.com/en-us/gallery/?tab=viz-of-the-day&type=viz-of-the-day Many are downloadable and therefore can be 'reverse-engineered' to large degree to help understand the construct.
As to presentation, I think the former responses all point to great solutions. Also, built-into Tableau are Stories: https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/stories.htm Which might help with controlling how you want the output to look and thereby controlling the context/content?
Best, Don
