Hi Tableau Community,
I'm using Tableau Desktop and working with approximately 25 Excel files in a single workbook.
When I add more Excel files, the Connections section on the left-hand side of the Data Source page expands and occupies most of the available vertical space. As a result, the Sheets section gets pushed down to the bottom of the pane, making it difficult to view and access the available worksheets.
I've attached a screenshot showing the issue.
My questions:
- Is there a way to resize or collapse the Connections section so that the Sheets section remains visible?
- Is this expected behavior in Tableau Desktop Public Edition when working with multiple Excel connections?
- Is there a setting or workaround to keep the Sheets section accessible without scrolling through the entire Connections list?
- What is the recommended approach for managing 25 or more Excel files efficiently in Tableau?
Any suggestions or step-by-step guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

@shaik Mahammad inthiyaz you could try using MS-Excel Power Query to combine files from many workbooks into one worksheet. Or use one of the new A.I. tools such as ChatGPT or Claude or Copilot to preprocess the data. They're very good that that. Beyond that I don't have anything else to offer other than manually copy/pasting each into a new worksheet/book. Steps for Power Query here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/import-data-from-a-folder-with-multiple-files-power-query or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/combine-data-from-multiple-sheets
