Hello everyone,

I work with Avenue Billing Services, where I support medical billing and revenue cycle operations for healthcare providers. Recently, I have become interested in learning how nonprofit healthcare organizations use Salesforce to manage their daily operations and improve collaboration.

I know nonprofits often have different priorities than private healthcare practices, especially when it comes to donor management, volunteer coordination, patient outreach, and reporting.

For those working with nonprofit organizations, what Salesforce features or best practices have made the biggest difference for your team?

Are there any recommendations for improving workflows, reporting, or communication that you wish you had learned earlier?

I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any resources that could help someone better understand the nonprofit side of Salesforce.

Thank you in advance for your insights!

    Hi Renvik,

For donor management and reporting, Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) or the newer Nonprofit Cloud gives you unified donor/patient records, giving history, and program affinity in one place — much better than juggling donor data separately from patient/client data.

For volunteer coordination, Nonprofit Cloud's volunteer management tools handle hours, skills, availability, and shift matching — a common pain point for orgs still doing this in spreadsheets.

For patient outreach specifically: if you're handling any protected health information, that's where Health Cloud comes in rather than plain NPSP, since it's built for HIPAA-compliant care coordination — worth clarifying early which parts of your data are PHI vs. general donor/constituent data, since that affects your architecture choice.

    Good starting resource:

salesforce.com/nonprofit/cloud/guide — worth a read before you scope anything out.
