Hello everyone.  I am looking for some insight to best practices for managing contacts and their various aliases.

We are an organization where our donors (contacts) can be a part of a household, multiple organizations and can even volunteer.  Many of our contacts choose to use different email addresses for each scenario, however we want to have all aliases (or profiles) connected to a parent contact record.

Where have you found success managing through this?

Ok, @Larry Gabbard well, your scenario may be approached and done from another perspective which is covered by Salesforce NPSP, more info on this Trail...hold my beer! let me see if I explain everything or we can engage in a call to go deeper.

You can record all donations of Jane in the same household and use Donor Attribution to make a different type of entry per each type without making any extra custom field.

Jane can be affiliated with an Organization Account which is her company and either you can record a donation from her "attributing the donation to the Organization" or you can make the Donation on behalf of Jane's Company. Either way, you can report on that if that would be your interest.  I'd focus on "donation attribution" rather than differentiating by email which would drive you crazy to later report on that.

    Summarizing:

    - Jane can make donations as Individual these donations can be one-time and recurrent.

    - Jane can also make a gift donation (which could be different from a donation if you check the NPSP documentation

    - Jane can make Donations from her and be "attributed to the Company that she's affiliated with"

    - The Company/Organization that is affiliated with Jane can make a Donation and relate her as part of the Donation to have a reference.

With that approach which is out of the box and according to NPSP Documentation, you can keep track of the donations per one Household member without focusing in multiple email addresses

Phew! Let me know if that was understood
