There are a couple of issues that we experience at the moment:
1 - individuals living at one address will all have separate personal accounts and are not linked.
2 - an individual may have a personal account, and also several contact records for business accounts (that haven't been linked)

In the older, alternative account models, for NPSP, there is a separate custom Household object. If you use that with the 1-to-1 Account model, it allows you to have individuals with separate accounts linked in one Household record by virtue of sharing the same address. So you could consider installing the NPSP and using that model, if there are other features in NPSP that would be useful to you. (Plus you'd get Household gift rollups and that kind of good stuff!)
