Hello All,

I'm working on setting up sales cloud but have some questions about structure and best practices. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Background: Our org is being setup to purchase mortgages. SF org is using person accounts since we deal primarily B2C.

"Lead Source__c" is either: "Mortgage Holder (Direct)" or "Broker"

A person account  and account is created on lead conversion.

Scenario in question: A mortgage lead comes in from a "Mortgage Holder (Direct)" and is converted to a Person Account and an Opportunity.  For whatever reason we are not able to close this opportunity with the Mortgage Holder Directly.  Later a "Broker" brings the same opportunity to us and we work together to purchase the morgage.  Where would be the best place to store all the "Broker" information.  I've been told not to mix broker information in with the person accounts...Additionally, we need a way to capture the "Property Appraiser", "Title Agent", "escrow agent", "closing attorney" contact information.  Is the person account field the proper way to manage all these parties associated with a transaction?

Other considerations:

  • Would like to be able track the number of opportunities closed with each of parties above. This will help us track their performance

Additional Question: What would you suggest for Account "Type" picklist fields? Prospect, Customer?

Regards,

Adam

    Hello Adam,

To track Customers related to a Opportunity I would suggest Contact Roles as the best solution.

If you want to report on this then you can use a report type such as Contacts with Opportunities but if you want things to roll up to Accounts/Person Accounts then you'd need Apex to achieve this.

A Contact Role can either be related to a Contact or to a Person Account.

Personally I'd suggest using Business Accounts with Contacts for Brokers as well as Appraisers, Agents, Attorneys etc. because it sounds like these are people related to a Person Organisation.

If this helps please mark as best.

    Thanks Tom
