Notification on New Opportunity if same Account Name already on Existing Opportunity?

My company does commercial paving at A LOT of different locations and sometimes we receive an Opportunity to work at a location where we ALREADY have a job scheduled, but with so many projects happening at once it's difficult for us to catch these without a notification. Would I be able to create a soft validation rule on a new Opportunity to notify us that we have an open Opportunity with the same Account Name that already exists?

    Hey Austin,

     

    You can create a Roll-up summary field on Account giving you the count of Opportunnites where stage are not closed. Then you can add a validation rule on Opportunity where you can check if the related account roll up summary field has value greater than 0. If true, you can add a an error message.
