Time-Based Workflow for Email Alerts

Question

I'm having issues getting my Volunteer Reminder email alerts to work properly. I want to set up a time based workflow rule to email volunteers 5 days before their upcoming job shift.

What's the appropriate formula critieria for Volunteer Hours: Start Date? Today() - 5 is invalid. See: https://imgur.com/a/ZZ7MXFT

Hi Tara,

First you have to setup the criterias that will define in which cases your workflow rule will run, then setup when you want the actions to be taken and then what are the actions that you want salesforce to do. Try following these steps:

On the first step, just remove the line "TODAY() -5", the remaining criterias looks fine.
On the next step, click on "Add Time Trigger"
Select the field that stores the upcoming job shift
Then you should be able to see a new section in your workflow rule where you will define your reminder email alerts

You Workflow/Process Trigger would be something basic like    NOT(ISBLANK(Start_Date__c))   Then you's just add a Scheduled Action (Email) and schedule it 5 days before the Start Date
