I have faced an unexpected salesforce behavior and would like you to help me.
I have the standard Description field on the Opportunity page. It is set up as required via page layout.
When the lead is converted, an error that the Description field should be filled in doesn't appear.
I expected that it would appear. For custom fields, it appears. An error is displayed for updated opportunity records and for new records created separately of leads.
The "Require validation for Converted Leads" setting is turned on.
I will appreciate your help.

I have found out that making the field required during field creation means that it is required for all methods of data entry for that profile. If you leave that unchecked and make it required only on a page layout, then that's the only method of data entry for which a value is required in that field.
So, this field will not be required during lead conversion or record import, maybe even if the process updates the record automatically. It will be required ONLY when a user opens a record page layout and make create or update it.
